Best Edition Archaeology from Space: How the Future Shapes Our Past with Free PDF EDITION!

Archaeology from Space is, above all, a fun and inspiring book. It’s a little disorganized and contains tons of corny one-liners but still conveys the compelling enthusiasm of a scientist for her new branch of study. In short, it most resembles the literary version of a Ted Talk.I do not necessarily mean this in a negative sense. In an era where public speaking seems bound by PowerPoint presentations and soundbites, Ted Talks have restored the fun of listening to a prepared speech. If someone wants to write a book along such a format more power to her.A devotee of Indiana Jones growing up, Parcak does not give a pedantic explanation that archaeology bears little resemblance to the films. Instead she tries to show how the somewhat tedious business of archaeology can be as exciting as the movie version.Parcak’s specialized branch of a archaeology is the use of satellites to identify potential digs. This is done by assessing the different vegetation patterns revealed by satellite photography. But even here she makes a potentially esoteric subject exciting to the lay man or woman.Similar to the success astronomers have had crowdsourcing the identification of different galaxies, Parcak has created a platform where amateur archaeologists can help assessing potential finds. The book builds up to and concludes with a call for those interested to become citizen-archaeologists.Admittedly, some parts of the book seem disconnected and I didn’t mesh with her sense of humor (keep in mind that her jokes may have been much funnier if spoken) but overall this is a successful book of popular science.I hope that the excitement of the author and the excitement generated by her actual Ted Talks encourage many to dig a little deeper (the author would appreciate the pun) and read this account of the new science of space archaeology.
